The earliest M3s differ from everything that followed. First-year cameras carry the glass film pressure plate, no frameline preview lever (Leitz added that during 1955), the older shutter speed scale and the double stroke advance. The opening production run was 10,000 cameras, out of 233,209 M3 numbers assigned before the model ended in 1966. Chrome over brass, catalogued 10150 as IGEMO, with the 0.91x finder and automatic 50, 90 and 135mm framelines. First-year bodies are what long-term M collectors look for.
