The Angenieux Type S 50mm f/1.8 is a rare screw-mount standard lens produced in small numbers during the late 1940s for Leica and similar 35mm cameras. Its optical design is a modified Double Gauss type, using 6 elements in 4 groups with high-index glasses that delivered exceptional correction for spherical aberration and coma at f/1.8. This early post-war Angenieux formula established the company’s reputation for high-speed optics before the more common Type L and Type P variants appeared.
