Leitz replaced the collapsible Summicron in 1956 with a fixed chrome barrel, keeping the seven-element optic and its ten-blade diaphragm, E39 filter thread and one-metre minimum focus. Collectors split the rigid into two types by the focusing ring, and this first type carries the narrow, deeply scalloped grip with a single distance scale; it is generally credited with the softer, more luminous rendering of the two. Leitz catalogued the chrome lens under SOSTA and SOSIC, later 11818, and built it until 1968.
