Double stroke M3s are the earlier form of the camera: the lever is worked twice for each frame, as Leitz built it from 1954 until the single stroke mechanism came in during 1958. Collectors take them as the original specification, and the shorter throw suits some hands better. Chrome over brass was the standard finish; only 1,320 of the 233,209 M3 numbers assigned to 1966 went to black paint. The 0.91x finder shows 50, 90 and 135mm framelines automatically.
