The Summitar replaced the Summar as Leitz's fast standard lens, seven elements in four groups from a Max Berek patent of July 1937, built from 1939 to 1955 with fewer than 172,390 made. Coated lenses were catalogued SOORE-B from 1946. The diaphragm runs ten blades up to serial 810001 and six thereafter, so early and late examples draw out-of-focus highlights differently. E36 filters, 240g, one metre close focus and the 45 degree field of a standard lens.
