Leitz built the Thambar in screw mount under the order code TOODY, and sources put the total at roughly 2,900 to 3,500 lenses across a production era given as 1935 to 1942. It is a four-element, three-group design of about 500g in which spherical aberration is retained rather than corrected, so out-of-focus highlights spread into halos and skin renders smooth without losing structure. The centre-spot filter made for it blocks the middle of the beam to intensify the softness, and a second red aperture scale is calibrated for use with it.
