The Leica Rigid Summar 50mm f/2 Nickel is a 1933-1936 screw-mount lens produced in very limited numbers before the collapsible Summar replaced it. It employs a modified Double Gauss optical design with 6 elements in 4 groups, using high-refractive-index glasses for its era. The rigid barrel construction, nickel plating, and absence of a focusing mount distinguish it as one of the rarest pre-war Leica 50mm lenses, with surviving examples numbering fewer than 200.
