Leitz built the 2.8cm f/5.6 Summaron from 1955 to 1963, 9,169 lenses in all, in Leica screw thread and later M bayonet. Six elements in four groups cover 76 degrees on full frame and focus to one metre, in a chrome-plated brass barrel of about 150 grams engraved Ernst Leitz GmbH Wetzlar. It was the compact wide-angle of the Barnack era and needs an accessory finder, since no Leica of the day carried 28mm frames. Clean examples are increasingly scarce.
