Leitz's first 21mm lens for the M was this f/4 Super-Angulon, designed by Jos. Schneider and produced from 1958 to 1963 in a chrome barrel. Nine elements in four groups give an extremely wide and geometrically well corrected field, at a time when retrofocus wide angles could not approach it. It takes E39 screw or A42 slip-on filters, focuses to 0.4m and weighs around 250g, with a nine bladed diaphragm closing to f/22. The deeply set rear group rules out the M5, the CL and any TTL metering.
