The collapsible Summicron opened the Summicron line, designed by Gustav Kleinberg and Otto Zimmermann in 1950 and built from 1951 alongside the rigid and Dual Range versions that followed; more than 253,000 serial numbers were assigned across the 5cm family before it ended in 1969. Seven elements, E39 filters and one metre close focus, at 220g in screw mount. Pushed in, it takes almost no depth in the bag, which is why it is still the natural standard lens on a Leica III.
