The Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH Version 1 (factory code 11661), introduced in 2006 and produced until 2016, employs an aspherical 9 elements in 6 groups optical design derived from the earlier Elmarit-M 28mm f/2.8. One of the two aspheric surfaces is created by precision glass-molding on the front element. This compact wide-angle lens delivers exceptional correction of distortion and field curvature for its era, with only 2,500 silver chrome units manufactured, making it significantly rarer than the black variant.
