The eight-element 35mm Summicron is Walter Mandler's original f/2 wide angle for the M, eight elements in six groups, produced from 1958 until 1969 in Wetzlar and at Ernst Leitz Canada. This is the black version with the depth-of-field scale engraved in yellow rather than red. Black barrels were made in far smaller numbers than the chrome lenses that account for most of the run, and surviving black examples are increasingly scarce. It takes E39 filters and weighs about 150 grams.
