Schneider's own Xenon 50mm f/1.5 in Leica screw mount is one of the genuinely rare non-Leitz optics of the period, a seven element, five group asymmetrical double Gauss made between about 1942 and 1947. It shares its lineage with the Leitz Xenon that Schneider produced under Leitz patents, and wartime examples were left uncoated. Wide open it is soft-shouldered and luminous with firm central detail, the rendering that has drawn fast pre-war double Gauss designs back into use. Very few reach the open market.
