Ernst Leitz Canada built the 2 inch f/2 Elcan for hard service rather than for comfort. Four elements sit in four groups, every surface air spaced instead of cemented, in lanthanum and high refractive glass, so that focus and contrast held through heat, cold and shock. Around 500 were made between 1972 and 1974, roughly 460 of them supplied to the United States Army with the KE-7A camera and only a small remainder released to civilians. Surviving lenses are seldom offered.
