The original 35mm Summilux, made by Leitz Canada between 1961 and 1966 in a run of about 6,400 lenses, is known as the steel rim for the bright metal ring around its front element. Walter Mandler and Erich Wagner drew the seven element, five group f/1.4 formula, patented in 1958. This is the standard version without spectacles, for M2, M4 and later bodies, focusing to 1m and taking E41 filters, finished in silver chrome.
