Leitz introduced the Elmar 35mm f/3.5 in 1930 as the first wide angle for the screw mount Leica, and made at least 46,747 of them before production ended in 1950. The design is a four element, three group Tessar derivative in plated brass, weighing about 112g, with A36 filters, a six blade diaphragm and one metre close focus. It is small enough to disappear on a Barnack body and renders with the gentle, low contrast drawing that suits black and white work.
