The Leica Summaron-M 35mm f/2.8 is a compact wide-angle lens produced from 1958 to 1960 with factory code SOFTO. It employs a 6-element in 4-group modified Tessar optical design, derived from the earlier screw-mount Summaron but updated with M-bayonet mount and 39mm filter thread. Its compact size and high contrast made it a preferred reportage tool in the late 1950s. This example is one of the rarer M-mount variants, with fewer than 4,000 units manufactured before replacement by the Summicron 35mm f/2.
