The first type of the Zunow 5cm f/1.1, introduced by Teikoku Kogaku in 1953 and known to collectors as the ping pong ball for its bulging, rounded rear element housing. It uses nine elements in five groups on Sonnar principles and a 55mm filter thread, and was superseded from about serial 5400 by a flat-backed second type of eight elements. Production of all versions together is put at 800 to 1,000, and one estimate has fifty or fewer of this first type surviving.
