J.H. Dallmeyer of London built the Septac as a fast anastigmat for cine and instrument work, the name taken from its seven elements, arranged in four groups on a double-Gauss plan; it was also offered on the Ilford Witness. Wide open it draws with a pronounced glow and the thick, oil-paint backgrounds Dallmeyer cine optics are known for, tightening quickly on stopping down. This is a coated version, rehoused from its original cine barrel into Leica M mount by an aftermarket converter rather than by Dallmeyer.
