The Leica CL, introduced in 1973 as a compact rangefinder developed in collaboration with Minolta, features a 40 mm f/2 Summicron-C lens of 6 elements in 4 groups following a modified Double Gauss optical design. Its 90 mm f/4 Elmar-C telephoto employs 4 elements in 3 groups derived from the classic Elmar formula. Produced for only three years with just 31,000 units made, the CL remains one of the smallest Leica M-mount compatible cameras, offering through-the-lens metering and exceptional mechanical precision.
