The second-generation Elmar 5cm f/3.5 was built in 1952 and 1953 in fewer than 37,150 examples, the post-war form of Max Berek's four-element, three-group Tessar-derived design. It keeps the collapsible screw-mount barrel and A36 filter mount of the pre-war lens, with apertures from f/3.5 to f/22 on a ten-blade diaphragm. Black-scale and red-scale versions were both current in these years, red having arrived in 1951. It is compact enough to disappear into a coat pocket.
