The third version of the 50mm f/1 Noctilux-M was built between 1986 and 1992, keeping the E60 filter thread introduced on the second version and still taking a separate clamp-on hood; the built-in telescoping shade only arrived with the fourth version in 1993. The optical cell remains Walter Mandler and Gerhardt Bechmann's seven elements in six groups, with no aspherical surfaces, half and full click stops from f/1 to f/16 and a 1m close limit. Sources put third-version production between roughly 2,600 and 3,300 lenses.
