The aspherical Elmarit-M 21mm f/2.8 replaced the older design in 1997 and stayed in the catalogue until 2010, nine elements in seven groups bringing distortion and edge performance to a level the pre-aspherical lens could not reach wide open. Order number 11135 is the black version, anodised aluminium at around 300g against 415g for the chrome-plated brass finish, with an E55 filter thread. Later black barrels carry the 6-bit bayonet coding that lets digital M bodies read the lens automatically.
