Nippon Kogaku introduced the 5cm f/1.4 in December 1950, months after its f/1.5, in the speed race against Leitz and Zeiss. It is a seven element, three group Sonnar derivative taking 43mm filters, the S marking the element count and the C the coating. This is the Leica screw mount version rather than the Nikon S bayonet, so it goes straight onto Barnack bodies and onto M cameras through an adapter. Wide open it is soft and low in contrast, tightening quickly by f/2.8.
