The Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/1 Version 4 (factory code 11603), produced 2006–2008, is a rare 6-bit coded aspherical lens featuring an optical construction of 8 elements in 5 groups that incorporates two large aspherical surfaces ground and polished by hand. Successor to the legendary 1976 Noctilux f/1, it retains the extreme-speed double-Gauss-derived design while adding modern high-refractive-index glasses for improved correction. Consecutive serial numbers represent an exceptionally scarce factory-matched pair from the final years of the f/1 Noctilux before its 2008 discontinuation.
