Later IIIc bodies wear the coarser pebbled vulcanite collectors call sharkskin, a covering Leitz adopted after the war in place of the finer prewar grain. Mechanically it is the standard die-cast IIIc: one-piece top plate and rangefinder cover, speeds from one second to 1/1000, chrome-plated brass fittings over an aluminium casting. Leitz assigned 133,626 IIIc numbers between 1940 and 1951, with the peak years 1949 and 1950 accounting for nearly 60,000 of them, so postwar chrome bodies dominate the survivors.
