Ilford's Witness was designed from 1947 by Robert Sternberg, formerly of Leitz, and Werner Rothschild, formerly of Zeiss Ikon, and reached the shops only in late 1952. It borrows from both Leica and Contax: a cloth focal plane shutter running one second to 1/1000 with T and B, and an interrupted thread bayonet that takes both the Witness bayonet lenses and standard 39mm screw optics. Fewer than 350 are thought to have been built. The Dallmeyer Super-Six 2 inch f/1.9 is a coated six element design.
