The Leica Thambar 90mm f/2.2 is a rare soft-focus portrait lens for Leica screw-mount (LTM) rangefinders, produced 1935–1941 in extremely limited numbers. Its optical design is a modified triplet with 3 elements in 3 groups, deliberately undercorrected for spherical aberration to produce a characteristic soft glow that disappears when stopped down. A dedicated yellow filter is included to control the soft effect. Only about 2,900 units were made, making it one of the most sought-after Leica optics of the pre-war era.
