The M1 was Leitz's stripped-down M2, sold from 1959 for Visoflex, copy stand and technical work. It has no rangefinder and no self-timer, the rangefinder window replaced by a metal plate, and shows permanent 35 and 50mm framelines with parallax correction behind a 1 to 1/1000s cloth shutter. Sources put total production between roughly 9,450 and 9,760 bodies, small by M standards. This chrome example is a pre-series camera, its front plate left plain without the M1 engraving that production bodies carry.
