An M3 stripped and repainted black outside the factory, and recovered at the same time. It is a refinish rather than a Leitz black paint camera: only 1,320 M3s were painted black at Wetzlar against 233,209 serial numbers assigned to the model, so repaints far outnumber originals and should be read as exactly what they are. Mechanically the camera is unchanged, with the 0.91x finder, automatically indexed 50, 90 and 135mm framelines and the cloth focal plane shutter.
