The Leica M3 black repaint, produced between 1954 and 1966, represents one of the most significant milestones in 35 mm rangefinder design. This example features a full factory-applied black paint finish over the original chrome body with replaced leatherette. The camera incorporates the 0.91× magnification rangefinder with 50 mm and 90 mm bright-line frames, coupled rangefinder, and bayonet lens mount compatible with the complete Leica M lens system. Renowned for its exceptional mechanical durability and film transport precision, the M3 established the enduring Leica M bayonet standard still in use today.
