Leitz replaced the M3's double stroke advance with a single stroke in 1958 and kept it to the end of production in 1966. One sweep of the lever advances the film and cocks the shutter. The rest is pure M3: a 0.91x finder, the highest magnification fitted to any M, a 68.5mm rangefinder base, automatic 50, 90 and 135mm framelines and a cloth focal plane shutter. Leitz assigned 233,209 M3 numbers in total, the body alone catalogued 10150 under the order code IGEMO.
