Leica marked seventy years of the company in 1983 with a commemorative M4-P inscribed 1913-1983 on the right shoulder of the camera back, 2,500 of them, order number 10416. The M4-P itself ran to roughly 24,970 cameras and was the first M with vinyl covering in place of vulcanite, built in both Wetzlar and Midland. It is the M4-2 chassis with a widened frameline set, and the anniversary cameras were sold as a distinct catalogued edition rather than a standard body with a badge.
