Leica built the M6 from 1984 to 2003 and assigned 158,309 serial numbers, of which 50,876 bodies were finished in silver chrome against 82,831 in black. Order number 10414 covers the silver 0.72x camera. Top and bottom plates are zinc with a painted finish rather than the brass of earlier M models, and the through-the-lens meter runs from a single CR 1/3N lithium cell. The 0.72x finder was the standard fitting, with 0.85x offered alongside. Designed by Heinrich Janke.
