The earliest 50mm Summilux barrels carry the reverse scalloped focusing knurl, a fitting used in the first production batches and replaced by the familiar ribbed ring soon after. Those early batches account for roughly 5,900 lenses out of fewer than 19,600 built between 1959 and 1961, and not every barrel among them was finished this way. Optically it is Mandler and Wagner's seven element, five group design: one metre close focus, E43 filters, about 360 grams in chrome.
