Version two of the 50mm f/1 Noctilux-M followed the E58 original in 1981, changing to an E60 filter thread and pairing with the separate 12539 clamp-on hood. The optical cell is Walter Mandler and Gerhardt Bechmann's seven elements in six groups, which reaches f/1 on high-refractive-index glass rather than aspherical surfaces; the diaphragm clicks in half stops down to f/16 and focus stops at 1m. Leica built 17,535 f/1 Noctiluxes in all before the f/0.95 ASPH replaced the line in 2008.
