Betriebskamera, or works camera, is Leitz's own term for bodies built for internal factory use rather than sale: testing lenses and accessories, recording factory work, giving engineers time with the product. They are engraved Betriebsk. and given short serial numbers outside the normal sequence, and although marked not for sale many later reached collectors. Most recorded examples are screw-mount and M bodies, so an R-series camera so marked is unusual. Catalogued R9 finishes were black and anthracite, built from 2002 to 2009.
