Product Description

Angenieux patented the inverted telephoto wide-angle in 1950 and coined the name Retrofocus for it. The arrangement increases the distance between the rear element and the film so that a wide lens clears an SLR mirror, and the name has since become the generic term for the type. The Type R1 35mm f/2.5 was the first of them, covering about 65 degrees on 35mm film. In Exakta bayonet it serves the German reflex system these early wide-angles were built for.
