The Leica Summarit 50mm f/1.1 is a rare screw-mount (LTM) high-speed normal lens produced in extremely limited numbers by Leitz Wetzlar between 1959 and 1961. Its optical design is a modified Double Gauss type containing 7 elements in 5 groups, computed by Walter Mandler. The front element is an oversized lanthanum glass component that delivers exceptional correction for spherical aberration at full aperture. Fewer than 1,000 units were manufactured, making it one of the scarcest production Leica lenses of the postwar era.
