The 35mm f/2.8 Summaron arrived in 1958 as Leitz's faster replacement for the f/3.5, six elements in four groups in a chrome bayonet mount taking E39 or A42 filters. This is the plain version without spectacles, catalogued SIMOM and later 11306, intended for the M2 and later bodies that carry a 35mm frameline of their own; it focuses to 0.7m and is far more compact than the goggled M3 lens. About 30,400 were built in bayonet mount.
