Collectors call the 1979 Summicron the tiger claw, after the clawed focusing tab fitted to the early barrels of this version. Mandler's redesign cut the lens to six elements in four groups, kept the E39 filter thread and brought minimum focus down to 0.7m in a barrel much more compact than the rigid it descends from. True focal length is 52.3mm, the diaphragm clicks from f/2 to f/16, and black anodised examples weigh about 240 grams.
