Walter Mandler's eight-element Summicron, eight glasses in six groups, was the first fast 35mm for the M and is still the version collectors pursue for its drawing at full aperture. Leitz built it from 1958 to 1969, in Wetzlar and at Ernst Leitz Canada, around an E39 filter thread and a barrel of roughly 150 grams. This is the chrome M3 version, carrying the bayonet goggles that bring the 35mm field into the M3 finder; the optical unit behind them is the plain M lens.
