The third 50mm Summicron, made from 1969 to 1979 under order number 11817, was the first to break the one-metre convention and focus to 0.7m, and the first built in black anodised aluminium rather than chromed brass. A six-element design replaced the seven-element optic of the rigid, trading a little of that lens's glow for higher contrast in a much lighter barrel. Leica's records give fewer than 44,029 lenses across the whole run. The tall, straight-sided barrel earned the high leg nickname.
