Reverse scalloped focusing knurls mark the first barrels of the original 50mm Summilux, Leitz's replacement for the Summarit and its first f/1.4 for the M. Walter Mandler and Erich Wagner designed the seven element, five group optic, patented in August 1958 and in production from 1959 to 1961 in fewer than 19,600 lenses. The scalloped ring belongs to the earliest batches, some 5,900 lenses at most, and was soon dropped. E43 filters, one metre close focus.
