Walter Mandler's second 50mm Summilux ran from 1961 to 1991 and reached 43,505 lenses, the fast Leitz fifty that set the look for a generation. Seven elements in five groups, a twelve blade diaphragm, E43 filters and one metre close focus in a barrel 54.5 by 47.7mm. The chrome version is brass mounted and weighs about 380 grams against 275 for black anodised, so it sits heavier on the body. Wide open it glows, then draws crisply from f/2.8.
