Boyer was a French lens maker whose Saphir name covered its fast photographic objectives, and its output has always been thin on the ground outside France. This is the Saphir 50mm f/1.9, in Leica M fitting for use on rangefinder bodies. French optics of the period are collected for a gentler contrast curve than their German equivalents, holding fine detail while letting backgrounds dissolve rather than break up, and Saphirs in usable rangefinder mounts come up only rarely.
