Alpa cameras were hand-built by Pignons SA in Switzerland, perhaps 40,000 of all models across four decades, and their standard lenses came from Kern. The Macro-Switar 50mm f/1.8 is that standard lens, a close-focusing design on a camera whose maker guaranteed the optical quality of everything it sold. The Alpa mount stayed unchanged from 1942 to the end of production, so period lenses interchange freely; a Metabones coupling adapter carries this one onto Leica M bodies with rangefinder coupling.
