The Type S2 40mm f/1.8 is one of the fastest lenses Angenieux made in this focal length, produced in France in the early 1950s and never offered in a coupled rangefinder mount from the factory. Examples used on Leica bodies have been rehoused by specialists into Leica M with rangefinder coupling, so the M fitting is an aftermarket conversion. The appeal is the rendering: crisp where focus falls, with backgrounds that slide away into softness. Very few examples exist in converted form.
