The Type S5 50mm f/1.5 is among the scarcer of the fast fifties Angenieux of France made for still photography. This example has been converted to Leica 39mm screw thread after leaving the factory, an aftermarket mount rather than an original fitting, which lets it sit on a Barnack body and on M and mirrorless cameras through adapters. Its reputation rests on the drawing wide open: bright, gently haloed highlights, a fast fall-off and backgrounds that swirl instead of melting away.
