Kinoptik of Paris, founded in 1932, introduced its Apochromat cine series in 1939 and kept it in the catalogue into the 1990s. The double Gauss construction is apochromatically corrected, giving the sharp, saturated and colour-accurate rendering the marque is known for, with backgrounds that fall away quickly at f/2. The 40mm was made for professional motion picture cameras such as the Arriflex and the Eclair Cameflex; this example has been converted from its cine mount to Leica M, which brings it onto film and digital M bodies.
