Ernst Leitz Canada built the Elcan lenses at Midland, Ontario under military and government contract rather than for the camera trade, the name contracting Ernst Leitz Canada. The 2 inch f/2 comes from that programme, delivered in a plain barrel for the equipment it was specified for rather than in a photographic mount, which is why almost every example in use today has been rehoused. This one has been converted to Leica M by an aftermarket workshop, so the barrel is not Leitz.
